I’ve just started work, and it is thanks to the Lighthouse Project and their good work and helping me with my job searching.
A Big thank you.

There is a selection of good things in the courses to help people do things and to help build up confidence. The staff and volunteers are very helpful and support us with CVs, job advice and different courses.
The textile ‘Spin a Yarn’ course has been a very productive session with helpful staff. To everybody who comes to the Lighthouse Project the enjoyment received was excellent and learning screen printing was a godsend to me and the others in the class.
All the staff help with computers.

The Lighthouse Project over the years has offered us all ample opportunity regarding bettering ourselves, whether this be looking for work, learning about computers or computer courses in general!
I know that I might not be where I am now regarding finding my choice of work as I was pointed in the right direction by one of the many friendly, excellent volunteers and staff, who freely give their time and never question anything or anyone whilst giving their knowledge and help to us all.
So a BIG thank you to every one of them from us all!
And lastly here is to the Lighthouse Project, carrying on from strength to strength for many more years to come.

I joined the Middleton Photography group about 18 months ago and have really enjoyed the times I have spent with the group. I have learned how to use a digital camera on manual settings etc, and have taken some good pictures on our outings and whilst at the club. We have also learnt about Photoshop.
The Lighthouse Project is a fantastic place with lovely people. I feel that more could be done to advertise the place to reach more people as I didn’t find out about it until I retired from work.
I wish the project much success and hope it keeps going for many years.

The Lighthouse Project is a great place for people to come for help and I think that it is a really good place for people to come and interact.
Will definitely come again – Saahira A – Jan 2015
I became unemployed for the first time in my life in August of last year due to redundancy. I have worked for over 37 years so this was a very daunting experience for me.
Carl, Carole, Liz and all the staff at the Lighthouse Project gave me confidence through the weekly workshops they run to apply for jobs.
I picked up new computer skills which otherwise would not have been possible. I’m now back in work.
Just to say a big thank you for all the kindness you showed me and keep up the good work helping the communities of Middleton and Rochdale.

I have been helped with my CV, cover letter and various job applications which I would otherwise have had trouble with doing on my own.
For this and for use of the computers and facilities at the Lighthouse Project I am very grateful.
This is a fantastic charity, Middleton is very fortunate to have the Lighthouse Project.

The Lighthouse Project has been an inspiration to me, I have been out of work since last September and they have helped me immensely putting a CV together and cover letter to apply for job vacancies. Also I have been involved in many courses they advertise on a weekly basis and two that stand out for me are the Feel More Positive self-confidence course, and the Online Basics computer course; for me they were a must and have helped build my confidence up again. If it wasn’t for the Lighthouse Project I don’t know what I would be doing right now. Friendly caring people who make you feel welcome any time in a relaxed environment. Michelle G – April 2014
“Having had an emergency operation on my right knee, I could not work. Aftercare was involved and I was taking co-codamol painkillers which were failing me for interviews for fork lifts, so my licences lapsed. Consequently I had to go on JSA and I was sent to Mantra training to renew my licences, meanwhile I needed lots of help with computers, and Dave and Carole were brilliant with giving me all the help I needed. I also got encouragement from all the other members of staff and the volunteers helping me to quit the booze and ciggy’s which gave me the confidence to get back into work – and now I have a job at Sarsons in Middleton.” Thanks Michael S – Sept 2016

I came to the Lighthouse Project to use the computers and for searching for work. Whenever I needed help with job searching I always asked one of the volunteers or team members and they were always there. My CV was not that good when I first came but they helped me with some changes. I kept up with my job searching and after a while I was invited for a job interview. Before I went for my interview one of the volunteers helped me to prepare by giving me a mock interview. When I went for the actual interview I passed it and now I have a job as a support worker in a nursing home. Thank you Lighthouse for all your help. Lauren M – Aug 2013
I was referred to the Lighthouse Project via the Job Centre in April. On arriving I was greeted on reception by Carole who explained what the project was about and what the project could help me with. I needed help with my CV and was able to use the computer with some assistance from Dave, who was most helpful, he put me at ease as he went through my CV with me, and with his support I managed to complete it and attach it to an email and apply for a vacancy with my local housing office. I then met Pam who helped and guided me through setting up a Universal Jobmatch account I was then able to successfully apply for lots of vacancies and since then I have had a job offered to me, which I will start at the end of July. I would like to thank all the staff who do a fantastic job and the volunteers as well who are essential to the smooth running of the project. Keep up the good work!!! Thank you – Gaynor July 2013

I always get help and advice whenever I visit, and I come out happy and complete whatever it is I came in for. All the staff and volunteers are friendly and brilliant! Thank you for your support over the the last 3 years, on and off. [Natalie has recently got herself a job in hospitality] Natalie H – Aug 2013
Thank you everybody at the Lighthouse Project, through the 8 months of being unemployed all the staff and team have contributed to me finding work, looking for courses, answering questions I’ve asked, and giving advice I have needed. I don’t think that I could have found employment on my own in this climate of job hunting, so thank you and well done everybody as I now have a job! Colin S – Oct 2013
Having read the recent articles in the Middleton Guardian, and being curious about the hopeful relocation of the Lighthouse Project from Warwick Mill, I paid a visit last week and was shown around by Centre manager Pam Semp, a great guide.
I was astounded by what was going on in large well-organised space with various rooms off, such as the music room and the painting group rooms. There’s are several banks of computers for people to use in job searches and other things, tables and chairs for arts and crafts and other interests, a small café and kitchen for training of how to cook.
This is the main part of this charitable project, to give people a practical and artistic opportunity to further their lives. The local council should be thrilled, all organised by private and philanthropic effort, and seemingly, to me on the day, done so efficiently. There are other aspects dealt with in the space as well, such as the wheelchair loan organisation Middleton Dial, and there are helpful noticeboards and pamphlets giving useful information.
A suitable relocation must be found, this initiative must continue… It is a marvelous social facility.

I like the Lighthouse Project because the people you are around are nice, and so are the staff. They put a lot of effort into providing good support. Amanda Q – April 2014
