Saying goodbye to a valued team member
It was with much sadness and some tears, that we recently said ‘Goodbye’ to Colleen, one of our long standing and valued team members.
Colleen first started attending the Lighthouse Project several years ago as a visitor where she found the place to be inspirational and encouraging.
Recognising the value of the work that the Lighthouse Project does, and being a kind of ‘go for it’ person, she decided to start volunteering with us helping people to learn computer skills, put together CV’s and look for work. She quickly became an integral part of the team.
Colleen has been an inspiration to many many people who have passed through the Lighthouse Project and she will be missed, although she is still likely to pop her head in from time to time.
Colleen had previously worked in a variety of support worker roles and this remained one of her passions, and when we had the opportunity to access some specific seedbed funding Colleen was able to start working for us as a part-time ‘wellbeing mentor’; which involved supporting and encouraging our visitors with social engagement and participation in wellbeing related activities as well as still offering employability support.
Recently both Colleen and Carole, one of our other team members, completed their Level 3 NVQ in information advice & guidance (IAG) which reflects the work that they have been doing in helping people to advance in their circumstances.
